If you like survival horror, this game provides a great experience. The atmosphere is the best I've experienced in a survival horror franchise. For a westerner, I think It helps that the fatal frame series takes place in Japan, because you are already starting out in unfamiliar territory. The battles occur in the first person perspective which helps with player immersion. There is a good balance of exploration/puzzle solving and battles, with just the right amount of ammunition and healing items added to keep the player under stress. That is essential for the overall experience. If there is no risk, there is no fear. Fatal Frame is my favorite survival horror franchise.
