Not a Bad Game, Needs Some Work

User Rating: 7 | Farming Simulator PS3

This review will be mainly fact based on what I have experienced so far. I will point out as much of the negatives and positives as possible.

Farming Simulator 2013 on the PS3 Console isn't a bad game, but definitely needs some work to make it more appealing. For the most part, the gameplay and strategy options are good. If you like to multi-task and earn lots of money in the virtual world, this is a good game for you. It is a nice change of pace from the fast action games that seem to inundate the gaming world these days.

The first thing you will notice is the graphics. They are not the greatest, but it doesn't take away from the gameplay. Vehicle detail is good. Being able to use the mirrors would be a nice feature though(especially when you have something attached).

There are two options for starting out. The first option is on a small farm that gives you two pieces of land and minimal training missions. The second option (which is what I chose after competing all the tutorials) is one lot and a few pieces of equipment to get you started. You start standing out in front of your home facing a field (16) that is ready to be harvested. All the fields are numbered. You then hop into your combine from the 1960's and begin harvesting (or you can chose to hire a worker and do other stuff). I don't necessarily suggest hiring the worker to start of with, as you don't have any land or money to much else. Starting off is a bit slow but picks up as you go. Once your harvester is full you empty it into a tipper and continue until the tipper is full. Then you take the tipper to one of the mills to sale, or put it in your own grain storage. I suggest using this map http://guides.gamepressure.com/farmingsimulator2013/guide.asp?ID=22108. The reason for this is that the map system is vague and buildings aren't really marked. You can check your PDA for current market prices and drive to the mill of your choice. The PDA has information on it like weather, prices for grains, high demand and current total running costs for your farm. The PDA has a map but you have to drive around to see items, buildings or locations. There is no navigation, which really needs to be fixed.

DO NOT run into the cars on the roads! They are indestructible. The good thing is your vehicle takes no damage. If you happen to get your vehicle stuck, there is a vehicle reset option in the pause menu. the pause menu has some decent features on it. You can view your fields and vehicles, switch between vehicles, change the timescale from real time to 120X and adjust your crop growth speed.

You continue this process until your field is completely harvested.. Then you cultivate and repeat the process. Like I said the beginning is slow, but once you get a little capital you can start to buy new equipment, land and/or animals that will help create more income.

Hopefully this will be enough to help you make a decision on the game. It is most likely different from what you are used to but if you approach it with no expectations, i suspect that you will enjoy it. I don't want to explain too much more of the game because I feel that it will take away from the "simulation" of farming. Part of farming after all is a learning process. Figuring what works and what doesn't is part of the charm of the game.

All that being said, it is a fun game to play that will keep you occupied for hours and hours, as long as you can get past the minor issues.
