Still a beauty almost 10 years after
This was Crytek´s breakthrough game back in 2004 with a all new graphic engine that took the breath out of the critics and gamers worldwide.
Even to this day, it is a marvel to look at and play. And from time to time i install it and play through that beautiful island. With today's computers it is no problem to crank up the setting to max and bestow those dazzling water-waves. Ahh..
This game has a decent story, excellent controls and gameplay. And for once a great A.I on your foes. They take cover under fire and sneaks up on you on suspicion. Probably the strongest point of the game that many games fails with.
The level designs are also brilliant and memorable and the whole game has tough enough difficulty to give.
This is the kind of game you can play through a million times and you just don´t seem to get bored of it. With such a feat, it ended up crawling back to my hard drive every now and then.
If you haven´t played it yet, then do yourself a favor and do so. It holds up very well and looks nice and fresh, 8 years after.
This is the only Far Cry worth playing too in my opinion. What Ubisoft has done with this franchise is a disgrace. Far Cry 2 was just as good looking but the rest of it was rubbish. Far Cry Instincts on Xbox got no match for this either. It felt limited, dull and dated on graphics, hell, they even didn´t use the original voice cast on Carver either..
No.. THIS game is the prime classic and how it should be done. Even Crysis is breathing behind the neck of this game as i thought it was a play once and put away game despite the great story.
Let´s see what Ubisoft can do with the forthcoming Far Cry 3. No matter what, few games can reach up to this classic even today.
