Wanted to like it, but disappointed

User Rating: 4 | Far Cry Primal PC

Admittedly, I had high expectations for this game. I previously bought FC2, FC3, FC3BD and FC4 and liked all of them, especially FC4. So when my favourite game series is coming with a 10000 BC theme which appeals a lot to me, what could go wrong? Well, I had a bit of worries about performance on my laptop (Intel i7-4710HQ 2.5 GHz / NVidia GeForce GTX 850M), but it is running FC4 without problems with good settings at a slightly reduced resolution and I read FC Primal have similar demands. Hence, I bought the game.

First thing, I try to run a benchmark from within the game. It crashes. Well, I restart and go for relatively low settings and start a new game. Graphics is staggering terribly, and I notice the graphics seems to have taken a turn towards a cartoon style. The Far Cry games are great because of their realism in the environment and physics, the cartoon style does not apply to me at all. Anyway, back to "settings" and turning all video settings to the lowest. Still the graphics is struggling, it is playable, but there is just this annoying slight delay in movements which breaks the mental connection to the game.

Still, this is my favourite game series, so on I go. The first part of the intro is good, hunting a mammoth, but then ... I thought that a Far Cry game in a completely new setting would also be a new experience. It is not. We are back at capturing "towers and bases" which is not bad by itself, but it cannot stand alone. All in all, I played a few hours and did not get caught by the story, I think I will not return to this game.

So all in all, I do not recommend this game, even to fans of the Far Cry series like myself. In any case, make sure you have plenty of computing power, especially the graphics card. Do not expect to be able to run the game just because you could run FC4.
