User Rating: 8.5 | Far Cry 3 PC
Far Cry is a brilliant game even with its faults. I managed to get my hands on the game a few months after release and was pleasantry surprised by the outcome. The most appealing aspect of the game is its exploration. You have the ability to run, drive, or swim around a massive island with very few restrictions. As you venture on, every little detail will surprise you as the games strongest point is its scenery.

In terms of the scenery, it has to be one of the most beautiful games currently released. This can lead to the unfortunate consequence of you spending almost too much time playing since you will find yourself just looking at the ocean, beaches, and various other places. You will find yourself staring off into the distance and almost forgetting why you even went there. The game is stunning to look at and it will feel like you really are there. Even the use of explosions and fire are thoroughly satisfying since the grass will be charred and smoke will rise.

The combat in the game is pretty solid with a few minor problems. Sometimes shooting at an enemy just does not seem to be quite right, it feels a bit off. You will take the time to aim precisely and some how it will miss completely. The melee does have its smooth moments where you can chain melee kill someone but other times, you will try to melee someone (assassination style) and it will just not let you. It can be very rewarding and other times frustrating.

The wide range is weapons is very appealing but unfortunately is has its faults. For example, purchasing weapons from the vendor is pointless and wasteful. All items weapons for the most you can obtain just by getting to a radio tower. Since you do not hold onto weapons like the conventional games, you always can access the gun you get from the radio tower when you go to your storage. So it turns into more of a, choose your setup and not hold onto your gun for dear life.

The money goes toward things like maps and customization of the weapons. There are some neat skins although somewhat lacking. It does give a slight sense of matching.

The other downfall of the game has to be the AI. Far Cry 3 has essentially two types of enemies; completely oblivious and flat out cheating. You will find moments where they are the biggest morons ever and almost boring to kill. Other times you will be swarmed and get frustrated at how cheating-like they are. Sadly, there is not a whole lot of middle-area when it comes to the enemies AI.

The story of the game is alright. You do get a slight feel for the main protagonist and his change. The developers did a good job of illustrating and making us feel how his relationship with his lover, family, and friends ends up changing. The antagonist is one of the best characters in the entire game. He just feels awesome and has one of the most fitting and topnotch voice acting.

All in all, the game is solid and worth the money if you can buy for a discounted price. I did not mention the multiplayer since in all honesty, it is the weakest point of the game and very disappointing. Then again, get this game for its amazing scenery, exploration, and general feel of the game and not for what you may think will be an amazing multiplayer experience.
