The repetitiveness is off the charts

User Rating: 5 | Far Cry 3: Classic Edition XONE

Far Cry 3 was the game that really kicked off the franchise and ever since, virtually every game of the franchise tried to mimic it in some way and for good reason. The game does a great job at creating an open world worth exploring every inch of. That being said, It's probably the only good thing that it does.

The story, while starting off interesting and fun, never really develops into something you want to see play out. Instead, They introduce a ton of bland side characters that distract from the characters they should be building up. And all of this kind of builds up to this mediocre ending that is one of the most unsatisfying I have ever experienced. It was a huge disappointment for me.

And it certainly doesn't help that the game is simply repetitive as heck. It's all the same things over and over again: Activate the radio tower to discover the land (even though you can travel the map with no problem as the only area that's locked is the southern part), Take over enemy bases for easier fast travel, Do minor side missions that don't offer you much in rewards, Kill a random animal or enemy in a certain way and that's about it. It's all just doing the same actions dozens of times over with no real variety, It's almost always the exact same thing over and over again and it just becomes boring a few hours into it. And let's not even start on the hundreds of needless collectables scattered across the map that do absolutely nothing but force you to play the game longer than you should.

Overall: 5/10
Far Cry 3 is a shining example of what not to do with an open-world game. By making it such a boring experience, It stripped away from what could have been.
