I shied away from the Fallout series, up until a couple of months ago, because I didn't like the demo of Fallout I; the graphics were bad, and the feel of the game seemed too depressing.
The graphics in Fallout New Vegas (NV), on the other hand, are very good-- although only a few things I have found are absolutely jaw-dropping. That is part of what makes New Vegas entertaining the good graphics. For example how your assault carbine looks while holding it in first person mode. I was pleasantly surprised and to a slightly lesser degree than surprised entertained by NV from start to finish. I liked how the main story was simple yet engaging. Sometimes side quests are intertwined with the main story. Each faction has different quests for you; some quests you can skip. Side quests are pretty entertaining. I found one companion's side quest to really standout in the game.
There are numerous different weapons to choose from: handguns, submachine guns, and many more. The DLC adds to the list. There is also a bunch of clothing and armor to choose from. You can also give your entourage weapons and clothes; I've found they do a good job in choosing to use good armor and good weapons. The VATS targeting system and regular shooting are fun. In VATS you can opt to target different body parts or the weapon of the enemy. You can cripple an enemy's limb: someone with a crippled leg will move slower, someone with a crippled head will have a concussion effect. Your enemies, gangs, mutated insects, animals are all fun to shoot at or VATS. DLC I have only tried two out of the four maps. Honest Hearts was a nice change of pace. The map was bigger than I expected for a DLC. Old World Blues I only played 5 minutes of, but it looks okay to me.
I enjoyed this game for 65 hrs, which is pretty good, and then I eventually became bored. I like shooting people in the shins with a .308 round, so I'll be back to the Mojave. The game is perfect to me for what it is. There are a bunch of other things I didn't mention, like getting to play male or female, flamethrowers, and so on.
