Bethesda did it again!

User Rating: 1 | Fallout 4 PC

This game feels like it is written by several dudes with serious mental issues and drug induced disorders. First dude, is apparently on crack, and he made a FPS game which encourages you to destroy everything that moves, including the 67% of all NPC friends you make during the playthrough. And that comes with no explanation, except, "you are with me or against me". Player character has absolutely no free will in deciding whether it is ethical to kill bunch of his friends, including even the son he searches for since the beginning of the game. Dialogues should be there to, if not moderate the decisions of the player, than at least to show the inevitability of these actions. But no, dialogues are here just to make you even more angrier at the intelligence insulting storyline.

Second dude, apparently in some acid induced nightmare, tried to make a RPG out of this, but that failed miserably. The characters are non existant in this game, and while they made a lot of open endings, one cannot simply decide which one is worse than the other. Same old cliches, blank characters, empty storyline.

Third dude is on heroin, he actually didnt know at all what the first two dudes are doing, so he made a Sims plug-in. Now, this mini game is not that bad while you play it, because you expect it will have some impact on the story, that if you make your settlers powerful and settlements prosperous, it will somehow affect the gameplay. No. It does not. It is there only to make you kill some more time. And it is broken and glitchy to the point of near frustration. As both RPG and FPS parts of the game are.

What makes it more clear that game is written by many writers, is that there are few quests/sidequests/characters that are actually well written, and the stark contrast between writing quality is more than obvious. Some voice acting is great, some tolerable, many are disastrous. Overall impression of the game is that it was made by thousands of people that didnt work with each other at all, perhaps even didnt know anything about the game except the parts they have been directly working on. For the rest details, see my Skyrim review, it is, sadly, perfectly applicable to Fallout, 4 years later.
