FRAME RATE ISSUES TOTALLY SCREW IT UP, APART FROM THAT IT'S AMAZING

User Rating: 7 | Fallout 4 PS4

Don't get me wrong, I've put like 40 hours into this game already and I can tell it's amazing, but frame rates make it unplayable at times on ps4 (and by the looks of it, Xbox one aswell). Seriously, I've never been too bothered about frame rates, I don't care about numbers and stuff, but when the game stutters so much that it means the game is often unplayable I have to draw a line and pick up on it. I kid you not, I played Skyrim a ton on Xbox 360 as soon as it was released and it performed way better than FO4 does currently. I literally never noticed stuttering in skyrim. Well in FO4 you'll certainly notice it, and you'll find yourself enjoying the game but always thinking "well is this area going to make the game unplayable or not?" and "I'm gonna avoid going there because the game will stutter and I'll die" or "I'll just roam around the countryside just outside Boston today because I don't feel like my game being ruined by an awful frame rate". My PS4 is the latest model 500gb version, and I've only had it for a month!

Frame rate becomes awful in some areas (avoid convega factory!) but also in some situations, like in a heavy battle which is when you need the frame rate to be good! Even walking around the world see's noticeable drops, especially in built up areas which are the areas that you'll most want to explore! For example the tallest tower (c'mon, everyone wants to go up the tallest tower in any game) was a ludicrous chore to go up, with the frame rate reaching an unplayable level. My advice is that you will definitely want to play this game AT SOME POINT. I mean I wrote this review to let people know that console performance is just awful but I'm missing out how amazing this game is if you could take away these frame rate problems. Do what I should've done; be patient and wait for Bethesda to patch the game to improve the frame rate. If that never happens and Bethesda decides to take their money and run, I'd still recommend buying it but by that time the price will be lower and you'll have saved some cash. In it's current state, it's not worth the full price. I'm totally addicted to the game despite these performance issues, and It would get a 10 if it didn't have them. But take it from me, it noticeably impacts your experience. Needless to say, I won't be buying another Bethesda game at release, as much as I absolutely love them.
