Drivin' through on max

User Rating: 9.2 | F-Zero GX GC
At first look F-Zero doesn't seem particularly interesting. It's a racegame set in the distant future where these hovering rocket propelled machines race at incredible speeds on futuristic tracks. Once you get the hang of it and start winning races, the game becomes addictive fast. You get in a flow as tou take the corners and focus on the tracks which go in all directions. Accompanied by techno music and guitar solo's you try to become and stay first. One mistake and you can forget about a good ranking. There are many tracks and cups and also new tacks to unlock. The so-called AX-cup is especially hard to unlock. You can also build your own customized machine. There are always 30 machines in a race and each of them is driven by a character from the F-Zero universe. They are all very comic book-like. This is the typical style f the game. When you become champion and win a cup, you get to do a hilarious television interview or F-Zero TV. This game is a lot of fun. The framerate never drops and the tracks are fantastic. If you can find a F-Zero AX arcade machine somewhere, you can also bring your memory card to the arcade and unlock tracks and machines. This is not necessary, you can also unlock the machines by winning the challenge mode, where you play as captain Falcon and have to obtain certain goals. However, this is very, very difficult.
F-Zero may look like a comicbook, but it is a very serious and challenging racing game.
