Fast enough to make your eyes bleed

Ok steady yourselves...here we see a classic Nintendo series F-zero and this installment is made by wait for it....SEGA and you know what...it's fantastic. Yes indeed these former rivals have teamed up to deliver an excellent game both for the arcades and home consoles alike. Speed is important to any racing game and you either get it right or you get it wrong a lot of racing games be it domestic cars or futuristic raceway affairs unfortunately get it wrong the only sense of speed you get is written on the speedometer while visually it looks like your travelling at a crawl...this however is NOT a problem you will be facing with F-Zero GX, the speed is simply blinding..you really get the feeling your moving at astronomical speeds as you tear through the futuristic tracks ranging from future city scapes, industrial locations, firery infernos, and bright neon casinos and more besides. The land scapes and tracks are breathtaking and well designed of course you'll be travelling so fast it's hard to take it all in yet it all comes together to create a truly impressive experience and the game runs at a fantastic frame rate with no slowdown despite the speed and vast ammount of action going on thats up to 30 racers at one time all battling for first place it's great stuff. There is plenty to unlock too, you begin with a core of drivers to choose from, by completing events you earn points which you can use to buy more racers and their vehicles to race in too, aswel as increasing your racing roster you can also spend your racing tickets to buy custom parts and build your own F-Zero racer, you can even use the games graphic editor to make your own artistic logos for your racer, so theres a huge roster to play as and you can make your own things too...is that all?...well no theres lots more. For added collectability each of the games characters have ending sequences of sorts, once you finish a Grand Prix your character is interviewed wth three possible questions that can be asked, there are 3 questions for each cup on each difficulty...so with all this you'd have to finish each cup on each difficulty with every character to hear all the possible, somtimes humerous, often bizarre responses. Also should you finish any cup on the games hardest difficulty you are treated to equally amusing or strange video endings so for the serious completists out there theres lots to be done here and theres more. The game also features a story or mission mode featuring heroic F-zero racer Captain Falcon in a number of diffent missions, sometimes you need to win a tough race, other times you must collect items scattered around the track, and others you must use attacks to destroy an enemy racer, these missions can be tough on normal mode...and with an option of doing them again on hard and very hard modes there are some tough challenges to be undertaken. The game gats even further milage should you have an arcade with the arcade version of the game F-zero AX nearby, you can take your memory card along and use your custom built cars cars anywhere, whats more by winning in the arcade you can unlock the arcade exclusive drivers and their cars and also the arcade race courses to play on your gamecube at home...don't worry too much if you don't have an F-zero AX machine near you, you will still be able to access these top notch unlockables from home by completing the games challenges and race championships on the hardest difficulty level. this game has style by the bucket load, is very challengic to put it lightly, to put it in a less delicate manner is really really eye bleedingly hard at times, with plenty to unlock and always a faster lap time to chase this is the MUST have futuristic racer for your games collection and once of the gamecubes top titles.
