Unfortunately just more of the same from Monolith ............FEAR should have been a one off not a franchise

I am a big fan of F.E.A.R, I have played the original through twice and also recently played through F.E.A.R files. But I reckon that Gamespot are SPOT ON, on their assessment of FEAR 2 .......it is nothing special this time around.

YES the guns are better, the graphics are better ..........but overall the game feels stale ..........I got bored half way through and stoppped playing

One really good decision made in FEAR 2 is reducing the number of shots to kill a single enemy unit and instead increasing the number of enemy units involved in individual battles...........this works GREAT!! the battles are even better than in the original game ......and Monolith were smart enough to reverse the path they started to take in Perseus Mandate where you had to unload two megazines just to layout one guy and it really detracted from the gameplay. So for this a I want to applaud the developers!

But one thing they haven't picked up on is ..........FEAR is much more fun when you are accompanied by another A.I. character ...........this to me a bog missed opportunity, as it always feels like the developers are teasing you as you are never with a companion for more than a few minutes at a time. I personally really loved have a companion along for the ride (like in Half-life 2: Episode 2 - which rocked!). I would have loved to have had this incorporated more into the game.

I would also say Monolith is setting themselves up for a major fall with FEAR 3 ..............this game should NEVER have been a franchise .........it simply doesn't have the story, which by the way over FEAR files and FEAR 2 has not gone anywhere and simply become convoluted. FEAR should have been a stand alone, once off!

FEAR 2 will only please the most die-hard of fans and is a rental for all other FPS fans.
