A space simulation MMO that stands the test of time because of it's focus on core gameplay, not eye candy.

User Rating: 9.5 | EVE Online PC
EVE online has had a strong core fan base for ten years now and for good reason. It has built upon a rugged three legged stool that all MMOs should follow, community, economy and play-ability.

The EVE community is very welcoming, very helpful and loyal. While starting out my journey there was not a question I could ask that was too stupid or yielded a sarcastic response like in so many other MMO communities. Such a mature fanbase, willing to help to build the population of the game is refreshing. However, because of the nature of the game, they can also be cut throat so be careful out there.

Nearly everything in EVE is player made, mined or discovered. Leading to an economy that is entirely player controlled. If you need to make money there are literally dozens of ways to do it. Leaving you free to pursue what fits your style best. The game also gives you the tools to invest like showing you the history of prices on any item, and the prices all over the galaxy, leading to a true supply and demand system that means you are never stuck with no way of making money. You simply have to find what works for you.

The game has depth like many won't believe. The skills that can be learned would take roughly 15 years to learn every single one. There are literally online schools with classes you can take to learn how to play (EVE university). This leads to a great game that you will not be mastering within a month or two. Instead, it keeps you busy for a VERY long time.

EVE has a very unforgiving death and PVP system however which will not attract a lot of players used to keeping everything when they die. But if you're willing to practice and play smart the rewards are huge. You could become very rich by playing the market right. You could be part of a large corporation of other players that destroy everyone in their path in huge PVP battles. Or you could explore the universe, finding ancient civilizations, black holes and artifacts.

I could keep telling you why EVE is a great game but the best evidence is the fact that it is still strong after 10 years, with over 50,000 dedicated players. If you are sick of level capping too quick and getting bored with whatever flavor MMO is out this month, give EVE a try. Grab the 14 day free trial and play through the tutorials. If you can live without cutting edge graphics than you may find that you love it.
