Europa Universalis: Rome is letdown compared to previous installments. However it does have its highlights.

When i first heard about the release of an Rome era version of Europa Universalis i thought to my self that could be one of the best games i've played or a complete letdown. Sadly this was the latter. Previous installments of Europa Universalis were great strategy games, however this release forgot the fundamental ingredient that makes a strategy game, the Strategy!

If you go any of the bigger nations in this game you can walk across the whole world destroying everything in your path, which was near impossible in previous releases of Europa Universalis as you would have wide-scale riots.

This leads me on to the AI, which really makes it easy for me to say that this game was disappointing, If you declare war on an nation the nation you declared war upon would instantly bankrupt itself by building troops or after losing a battle would instantly seek another battle with no morale therefore sacrificing his army.

Also, there is no nation management in this game. For example, in EUIII you could alter budgets etc. however this game does not allow you to do this, so if you like influence your nation seek another game.

However it does have its highlights. The graphics are greatly improved than its predecessors. The trading system has been revamped, which is either great or bad to some people. Also the character system does add depth to the game, even though it seems every year one of them dies.

Overall, an OK game. But gamers who liked the previous installments would instantly see that this is not Paradox Interactive best release under the EU title.
