With a few minor flaws, ESPN is a good hockey game worth owning.

User Rating: 8.5 | ESPN NHL Hockey PS2
Well, let's start out with the minor flaws of the game. First of all, goalie helmets are NOT one random color that just has the team logo on the forehead of the helmet. Second of all, the captain of the team is designated a "C" on his jersey and the alternate captain an "A" on his jersey. When you change a captain in this game, the "C" or "A" remains on their jersey....What up wit dat? Lastly, the fighting is very, very bad. Remember NHLPA Hockey '93 on the Super Nintendo? This is worse than THAT! Other than that, the game is flawless. All hockey games really seem the same to me as far as gameplay. This is no exception. Not that it's bad or unoriginal, but it seems a lot like last year's game. The graphics are pretty mediocre. The fan graphics are terrible, the goalie masks, like I said, suck, and the overall graphics just seem...well...well they aren't good. Not as bad as PS1, but they could be better. Now, many people hate the commentary of this game. Those who truly love hockey love Gary Thorne and Bill Clement. Yeah, it's a little, yes I mean A LITTLE, repetitive. But you know what? That's how they are on TV. That's how authentic this game's commentary is. The shot, post, save, hit, skate, and other sounds are excellent as well. 8.5 out of 10. +Great commentary +Fun mini-games +Just plain fun to play -Mediocre graphics -Terrible fighting mode -Not as good as EA's game
