Why have a life online when real life is already time-consuming?

User Rating: 6 | Entropia Universe PC
MMOs are nothing new. They have been around since the PC was used as a gaming machine, way back in 1996, when 3DO released the world's first MMO, Meridian 59. The game still exists, although not too many play it. (It's pretty much a novelty game, nowadays, played by retro gamers.) Project Entropia begins with a massive 1.0 GB download, (which takes several days) and a small client, used for downloading new content. You make your character, and then you touch down on Port Atlantis. The interface can take quite a while to get used to, so, you might take a while to get used to that. Basicly, you have no money, an orange jumpsuit, shoes, and a pair of underwear. So, you'll have to invest some money with your credit card (considering you have one) and put some green on the table. Sadly, although it's free to download and play, it requires a major time investment not too many can afford. If you start with no money, you can make sweat and sell it. This said, is easier than done, as it'll take a while to get a large profit. You can also be a runner, but not too many utilize them anymore. Project Entropia also suffers from disconnection problems and lack of connectivity with 56K modems. You set down to play, and the game quits to the desktop. What gives? Luckily, the game reconnects very fast, but, still, it's a timeblock already for such a time consuming game. Graphics are very bland, with trees that look like triangles on a stick, and buildings that appear to be very blocky. Although the weather and atmospheric effects are eye-catching, and the character models are well detailed, they are nothing to talk about. Sound is comprised of odd techo tracks and some sound effects, but, they are nothing very catchy, they just sound artificial and dull. So, with a clumsy interface, bland grahics and sound, dull, complex and time consuming gameplay, and connectivity problems, there's no point in playing this MMO when so many other, much better and superior in almost every aspect are out there already. Try it if you wish, but I wouldn't recommend it.
