Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is a fairly enjoyable and colorful game that isn't amazing by any means, but still decent.

User Rating: 7 | Enslaved: Odyssey to the West PS3
Enslaved: Odyssey to the West is one of those post-apocalyptic games, but colorful and nice to look at actually. Unlike most games with similar themes, it has personality. Despite some of its shortcomings, Odyssey to the West is a good game that fans of action and/or platforming should buy at a bargain bin.

Game play: 7. Odyssey to the West has typical game play taken from beat-em'-ups and platformers; nothing no one should be unfamiliar with. There is one odd element in this game, and that is the main character, Monkey, being forced by Trip to protect her. If she dies, Monkey dies. If Monkey dies, well then she's pretty much screwed then herself. You will often have to protect Trip from turrets, tell her when it is safe to follow, throw her across ledges that she cannot jump by herself; she in return will heal you.

The combat, while it is a bit of a button-masher at times, is quite enjoyable; actually, just about every hit on those robots was fun. The boss fights, while easy, were a blast to play as well.
The platforming could have been better though. It was just so streamlined. For example, when you're climbing, you cannot even jump off the side unless there is a ledge for you to grab or solid ground to land on. Basically, the platforming feels very dumbed down. Other than that flaw, that aspect of the game was still moderately fun.

Presentation: 8. Technologically speaking, the graphics are not all that great; however, the art style of the game makes up for that and then some. It was hard for me to not just look at the view I had after doing some climbing.
The sound track isn't anything special. The sound effects are pretty nice.
The story is what it is. This isn't the kind of game that tries to give you an amazing story, but it was good enough.

Value: 6. Odyssey to the West should take 12 to 15 hours to beat; an all right length of time for a game like this. There's not much left to do besides DLC after beating the game.

PROS
Great combat
Boss fights are a blast
Gorgeous visuals
CONS
Short
Platforming is dumbed down

Enslaved: Odyessey to the West is a decent game. It's nothing most people are going to look fondly on years from now (it's been about a year and a half since I have beaten it, and I don't even look fondly on it), but to fans of beat-em'-ups and/or platforming games, this is a game I would look for to buy for cheap.
