For such a simple game, Elevator Action manages have challenge and an inherent arcade feiling.

Elevator Action has to be one of Taito's best games. The gameplay is the obvious strength of the game, with a simple premise but devilish level designs later on. The idea is simple: shoot or evade bad guys, get to the red doors, make it to the bottom.

The first thing you may notice is the graphics: plain but colours and slightly jumpy animations make it not the best graphic experience. However, this is both a gift and a curse: the look of the game is very simple and easy to look at, but there is a nagging lack of variety in the style. However, though the animations ARE slightly jumpy, they are all well executed and have there own stile to there credit.

The sound is also simple, but does not have the buzzer quality of most overly-simplistic games. Also, thought the toon in the background is a bit reppetitive, it is well done, and by keeping it simple it allows all the sound effects to be heard while it plays. Still, it would be nice to see some variety in the sounds and sound effects, too.

The gameplay is obviously the games strong point. In addition to using the usefull elivator, you may also use the escilator to go up and down. Sometimes, the mze of elivators is so great that you can spend ages going up and down, all the while attempting to keep out of range from the looming enimies. The variety in ways you can kill enimies is astounding for such a simple game. You can shoot out a light and hope it kills a bad guy, kick them, or shoot them. Despite all this, it would, once again, be nice to see more variety in this area as well.

Quite simply, this is a game worth having, and seeing as you can usually find a copy for $5.00, there really is no point in not getting it.
