An Ed By Any Other Name..

User Rating: 7.5 | Ed, Edd n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures GC
Perhaps one of the most original of Cartoon Network's original cartoons, Ed, Edd, n Eddy had a style and feel all it's own. Mainly focusing on the "get rich quick" schemes of the three protagonists, each episode entertained in that "show about nothing" way that sitcoms of the 90's did. After an outing on the GBA, the Eds have made the jump to home consoles. Does it do fans of the series and platforming in general a justice or is it another cookie-cutter cash in? The game, much like the show, centers around a series of "scams" perfomed by the Eds, none of which would get them hard time or rise to the level of Enron. To carry out the scams, you must use the powers of each character to progress through a level. Eddy is able to jump on the shoulders of the other two to form a human tower, Double D is able to bounce on the arms of his comrades, and Ed is able to lead a human train to burst through barriers. Each character also has a contextual move and a melee move in their arsenal. Scattered through the levels are items that unlock cheats, features, and costumes, so even after beating a level, you may want to go through again to get everything. The look of the game translates the show into 3D very well. The character models and environments look exactly like their televised counterparts. If you look closely, you'll see that the lines around the characters squiggle, just like on the show. The animation is very fluid and slowdown is very rare. My only gripe is that the animated sequences between scams looks more like Flash animation than the show. It would have been nice to have the same effort put into them as the show, seeing as how they're very short. The audio is decent, with the theme song being used to good effect. All in all, the contols are decent and get the job done. The game teaches you the ins and outs early in the game, and it's not hard to play. While not the platformer of the century, Ed, Edd, n Eddy: The Mis-Edventures is a worthy addition to the collection of any fan of the show.
