While it has great roots, there are many elements that make the gameplay tedious.

For those of you who've played the first Earthworm Jim, EWJ 2 is similar aside for the fact that there's many catches. Practically every level has some kind of twist rather than just running and jumping level by level. Examples include the bomb transport level, in which you push a bomb through a top-down plane, or the Peter Puppy levels, in which you must play a clone of the old Game and Watch game "Fire." These catches unfortunately drag the game down for me a little. The platforming is the best part of the game, but it is shunned aside. I begin to get very tired of playing the Peter Puppy levels. There are a total of 12 rounds in the entire game on the normal difficulty, and they are distributed through the game that it makes me feel as if I am being interrupted. The bomb escort level is downright frustrating, and my patience wears very thin by the end of the sand level, in which you must repeatedly shoot the sand to create platforms.

Looking past these twists is still a very solid game. The platforming is fast-paced, and there is a variety of very cool weapons at your disposal. The gameplay is difficult, and the graphics and animation are neat. You'll see a comeback of many characters from the first game, such as Psycrow, Major Mucus, and Bob the Fish.

Not as good as the first, but still a blast to play.
