Earthbound, a game enjoyed by many, including I. I've enjoyed earthbound for many reasons, it has an amazing storyline, it's just beautiful.
Storyline:
To start it off, you play as Ness, from the small town of Onett (pronounced one-et), asleep in his bed, but suddenly, a meteorite crashes! And then you start, he goes to his little sister, Tracy, and takes a cracked baseball bat (if I remember, it's been a while since I played), and maybe cookies later, talks to his mom, goes back and changes clothes, and goes out.
He goes to the meteorite, finding out he can't go and see it because police want it to be a private investigation, but his friend Pokey is bugging the crap out of the police, they talk for a second, Pokey says he'll tell Ness what happens, so Ness goes Home, but a few hours later, Pokey goes to Ness' house, missing his younger brother, Pickey, so Ness gets changed again, but gets a call from his dad, his dad will now save progress for Ness via phone call! So Ness goes with Pokey back to the meteorite, fighting crows and runaway dogs, and when they find Pickey, who was hiding behind a tree, because Pokey became scared and ran away. But before they leave...something happens at the meteorite...a being from the future tells Ness that he will have to find three friends and save the world from a space alien named Giygas. Ness finds the friends, who are all in different towns, and not only finds them, but finds the meaning of true love, friendship, and teamwork.
Graphics:
Good for its time in 1995, but today just look 16-bit, but to me they look very well done, the game, like most RPGs, is done in an "eye in the sky" view, named isometric if I am correct. Either way, it looks nice.
Gameplay:
The game is similar to Pokemon, unlike pokemon which we probably are all so used to, you can evade enemies, because you can see them. It's indeed lovable, and plays fine. And like said, its camera placement is in the sky until a battle starts, and then takes it to the usual battle screen, all the games of the Mother series, including this one, have some funky-looking, psychedelic backgrounds in the battle screen, funky music, too. It's all enjoyable, and can even be difficult at times, you'll certainly have to fight a lot of enemies, but try to be below level 90 for a while, because later on in the game there's a place called Magicant, and if you're at level 99, you won't get any of the special stats increase.
Misc./Humor
It is jam packed with witty humor, and humorous depictions of the American society, it was successful in Japan, but in America it was poorly received, but is now loved by American gamers for its previously stated witty humor. It even parodies RPGs like itself.
Overall:
It's a great buy, recommended, but sadly, on ebay, it is very overpriced. It's an AMAZING game, love it, and I hope this review helped you make up your mind on it.
