Koei has made A LOT of improvements to the rest of the series. The graphics are much better, but you sitll can't bsee the blood, which is a huge improvement to the others. In the others, much of the battlefield was restricted and many features could not be used. Now there is the advantage of being able to swim and climb ladders onto watchtowers and castle walls. There are several tactical featrues, such as suprise attacks into bases, seting towers, gates, and bases on fire, and building and protecting rams, catapaults, siege ladders, and ballistae. There are several things to look out for in the battlefield, like wolves and tigers in the forests. When going by a hill, watch out for arrow attacks from archers and watchtowers on the high ground.
The fighting style is new from the old DW games, like how you don't get combo moves, but must unlock Renbu ranks by getting skill points in battles. Each renbu rank allows your character to add another combo to their attack. At the end of each battle, you get an amount of skill points from how well you did in the battle. You get one skill from a chain of skills for each poit. Each character also has a special attack, such as fire attack, rock fall, and true speed, that can be used bo obtaining Tomes, which appear as gold and red cards on the battlefield.
When sieging a castle, there are many realistic features. You can climbe the walls on a siege ladder or knock it down as a castle defender. You must also kill enemy defense captains to obtain sites for your engineers to build battering rams and catapaults, which must be protected from reinforcement soldiers and defense captains and from ballistae on the castle walls.
There are also more types of enemy troops, such as cavalry and strongmen who have clubs and throw boulders ar the enemy.
There are no new modes to play in, but in Mosou mode you must play as five characters for each of the three kingdoms instead of beating the same order of battles for each kingdom like in DW4.
There are also several characters not used in DW6, like Da Qiao, Meng Hou, Zhu Rong, and Jiang Wei.
