A nice little hack-n'-slash in the vein of Baldur's Gate

Like many people who play videogames, I loved 'Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance' for the consoles. It was a great little, fancy hack-and-slash, and with a good story and it was fun to upgrade your character. And like many other people, I am eagerly awaiting a sequel to that great game. In the meantime, you might want to check out D&D: Heroes. You won't be disappointed. When you start this game up, you get a choice of 4 character types to choose from. There is a Warrior, Cleric, Rogue, and a Wizard. Each has their own sets of skills, strengths, & weaknesses. After you decide what class you would like to play with, you get to watch a nice cut-scene explaining the background of the story. I will say, however, that as you play through the game, you give a rat's ass about the story. The leveling up and game play is the heart of this game. Basically, this is a hack-and-slash game with RPG elements. I know that sounds like a bad thing. It's quite fun to play, though. Most reviews have torched the single player experience and found this only good as a multi-player game. I disagree. Of course I am the same guy that liked 'Gauntlet: Dark Legacy' single player. I just love games where I level up a character and try to find that next "Exquisite Bastard Sword +4" I need. I have always compared these games to a Diablo. When I played BG: DA, that was the first thing I thought of. This game doesn't have the polish that those 2 games do, but you will enjoy the game play experience if you give it a chance. Where this game can't compare to BG: DA, however, are the visuals. Not that this is a bad looking game, it just doesn't have the same polish to it. It looks like this game was made for the PS2 and ported over to the Xbox. That is not the case, however, as this was an Xbox exclusive. The sound and music is pretty standard fare of this type of game. The clanging of swords and nice music brings me back to the days of playing other medieval RPG's. Nothing special, but nothing disappointing either. Like I said, if you are sick of waiting for the new Baldur's Gate to come out, I would give this game a shot. It's at least worth a rental. I would call it a purchase, if have a few friends to join you in the hack-and-slashing. Either way, check this game out.
