Going downhill...

User Rating: 8 | Dreamfall: The Longest Journey PC
In truth the final opinion depends upon your attraction to adventure games as well as the fondness or aversion of the first game. The game condemns itself because many expect of it to live up to its predecessor. Some of the innovation in game mechanics break immersion, such as the focus field. However, the only thing worth mentioning is the story... and it is great, yet die hard fans will be shocked and will feel a certain part of themselves slowly starting to die as they play this. The magic of the first game is gone and it offers but an occasional nudge towards it. It seems as if the developers forgot what they wanted to say with the first game and started following in the footsteps of modern day games. Dreamfall is not bad,far from it. It just does not FEEL as it should. But leaving that aside there is the other problem. The cliffhangers. If you know what The Longest Journey was all about ,if you truly understood it. You will feel slightly offended when you finish this. The story does not finish, instead,it paves the road for the developers to milk the series as far as fans let them. In fact,it can be compared to the star wars prequel/sequel trilogy. It's still there, just doesn't feel right.
