I haven't played the first The Longest Journey, but Dreamfall: The Longest Journey is an awesome game. I haven't played too many adventure games, but this is a great introduction to the genre. For one, Zoe, the main character, is fairly interesting, and the various characters with whom you interact feel very natural and realistic, like they're based off of real people. There are lots of places to explore and Zoe's comments on objects and areas are entertaining. I definitely recommend this game both for people who've played the first and those who haven't alike; I'm absolutely enjoying it.
