Simply brilliant!

Not worth the 8 the Gamespot reviewer has given this. Most certainly a 9 at least.

From the start of this game to exploring Nadoret, it is clear to see that a lot of effort has gone into the making of this game. In a word the graphics are gorgeous. The modeling of the game characters are top notch along with the buildings as well. The graphics are literally overflowing with deliciousness! And the animation of players in battle and NPCs is a delight as well.

But less of the graphics, because this game is more than graphics. From before you start the game you create your character and there are loads of classes to choose from. All the main D&D race types are here - elf, human and dwarf. I decided to go for barbarian type warrior and I had a lot of fun indeed with him. There are lots of different weapons and armours to find and purchase in the shops. And again the modeling is beautiful. Like I said you can see clearly that a lot of time and effort has gone into this.

Once you get into the game the action literally starts from the beginning. Of course I don't want to say what as I'll give it away but you find yourself on a long quest with your trusted companions. There aren't that many different locations to go to, but this is made up for the fact that you can travel back and forth on your ship to see if any more quests have come up.

The only drawback for me in this game was that you can't really go point farming in order to get adventure points (to go up in level) and leveling points (to upgrade your character's skills and statistics). Once you've killed a foe you're awarded points but only once. The main reason for them spawning again and again is so that you can use your animal lore in order to skin the animal. Such items are used for making weapons and armours with the use of Blacksmith and Bowery skills. As well as Blacksmith and Bower skills, there's also Alchemy, used for making potions and as you put more points in the plant lore skill, little green dots show up on the map and hover over with the mouse will tell you what they are. Of course, like animal lore, some plants you won't be able to pick as well as animal skinning until your hunting/plant lore skills increase.
However saying this there are lots of creatures to kill so you will get quite a lot of adventure points. Some parts of the game you'll need to wait in order to gain better skills as the foes can be truly tough. You also won't have a problem kitting out your characters with the best armour and weapons through lack of money. Thanks to the blacksmith, bower and alchemist skills you can always make things to sell, although you will have to do a lot of farming (picking plants/skinning animals) as well as smashing barrels and crates to get the goodies from within.

I finished this game with over 11,000 adventure points, so it'll give you a good idea of what to use your leveling points for.

Overall, this game is brilliant. With over 30 years of gaming experience, having played possibly every adventure game to date, I can say this is undoubtedly one of the best D&D types I've ever played. I can't overstate that the graphics in the game are simply beautiful and I'd award this game an 8 just for the sheer effort that's gone into it. Top marks to the artists, animators, modelers, designers, level and game designers, programmers..in fact everyone. DTP entertainment have really pulled a gem out of the bag with this one.

P.S.

There's also definitely some Peter Jackson inspired animation going on here. I don't want to tell you which but think about sea monsters and elves and once you've fought/met them do you see what I'm going on about, that is if you've seen the classic Lord of the Rings trilogy by Jackson.
