Fun game, When playing turn your brain off.

First off I will state that this is a good game. I reccomend it highly. Mostly for the storyline.

Drakenguard has good gameplay elements. The worst part is how everything loops in the game, but that is likely a common review point so I'm not even going to go into that beyond this.

That being said, you really need to just shut your brain down and enjoy slashing through everything, my advice. Find a weapon you really like to use. (I'm partial to that nifty double headed polearm) And simply slash away, it will keep your focus much more easily.

The game's real drawing point as with many of Square's games, is the storyline. It can be confusing to us with the American versions because it has elements we consider taboo which were taken out in the versions shipped to the states. The main character's sister wants him in a very unsibling manner. Really not uncommon for that time period is the area it is based on, or in Japanese culture. One of the character's Leon is a pedophile. And one they still have easily reveled is the the phsyco elf goes around killing children. With certain elements like these taken away, it is understandable that parts of the story can seem rather odd.

The amount of weapons to chose from is vey fun. You can have one of each type at any given time granted you have collected them. Or you can have all of the same type, at least if there are eight of that weapon type. Gaining weapons actually helps, you need to have them all to view the last ending. But the game is nice in a way in not having you needing to level up all of those weapons for it.

The multiple story endings, as messed up as they can be (All well done, just not real happy ones) make the game have great replay value. It's actually worth wiping out as many bad guys as possible because it raises your character's and dragon's levels. Plus it helps level up those many many weapons.

Witha great cast and some more than decent voice acting, a good story, decent gameplay, and good cutsceanes. This game is certainl worht adding to your collection, even if it is to simply not focus for a while and senslessly beat armies to the ground.
