Great combat system and shear fun

User Rating: 8.5 | Dragon's Crown PS3
Reminiscent of the old-school Dungeons and Dragons side-scrolling arcade game, this game brings back good memories and creates better new ones.

The good:
-The combat system is brilliant fun. While seemingly a simple hack-n-slash the further and further you get into the game the more you realize the timing, decisions, strategy and planning make the difference between life and death. While the game can appear easy sometimes, there are two extra difficulty settings after beating the game. Certain characters such as the fighter feel natural and simple to hack through monsters where other characters like the witch or archer elf require more strategy. Also you can choose to have 0-3 allies accompany you. Basically the game is hard going solo, just right with one ally and starts to get easy with 2 or 3 allies.

-The item, equipment and loot system keeps you hunting for more and more, digging through dungeons to find a better sword, staff, bow or piece of armor. Highly variable options in terms of equipment and also useable items let you customize how your character will fare in the next dungeon.

-The art...while there are questionable choices in the design mentioned below, overall the art style is crisp and impressive.

The bad: the art - although over-sexualized women are not new to video games, the style of this game is utterly ridiculous and at times offensive. Some games offer scantily clad armor options, tight pants that would make yoga instructors blush or even certain NPCs or what not that we've all seen over the years. This game makes no apologies and you cannot in any way avoid the blatant sexism. It's usually not a good idea to have this game on with your girlfriend or maybe even children in the room.

Bottom-Line: although offensive at times, the pure fun and well designed combat drag you in. Play solo or with friends...maybe play a drinking game for every time a ridiculous pair of oversized breasts makes its way onto the screen.
