I played quite a few role-playing games in my elemantary and intermediate-school heyday of Apple II gaming, but Dragon Wars is by far the best of them all. Might & Magic, Bard's Tale, Magic Candle, and Windwalker all paled to the complexity and all-around fun of Dragon Wars. The game was quite long and had amazing graphics for the time. The world window in the interface was a first-person perspective and all of the areas were quite unique. To this day, I still remember the enemy animations, like the Yonderboy puffing his cheeks or the formidable Humbaba. I enjoyed playing this game more than any other on the Apple II. I even learned how to use a Hex-Editor to hack my save file and add items or stats to my characters after beating it a few times. If you get an emulator for the Apple II, make this the first game to play on your list.
