There is very little to compare to this game...Square and Level-5 hardly put a foot wrong.

I don't know how to describe how fulfilling it is to play this game. This is the result of having two GREAT companies together on one game. The graphics, the storyline, the scale of the world, the VOICE-ACTING, the gameplay, the music...it would be easy to think that I am simply exaggerating because I am in love with the game but it is not so, the game really does a stupendous job of bringing the Dragon Quest games onto the PS2 and I can only hope that Square and Level 5 team up again and decide to do another on the Playstation system (either PS2 or PS3). Another aspect of the game that is very well done is the mini-games/side-quests. They fit in with the game very well and give you a break from the main quest, further immersing you in the world of the game. The humour and detail that was obviously put in both in Japan and in the localization is wonderful to see as well.

To be fair there are one or two drawbacks, for example, the battling can be a bit too slow when you want to move faster through a section of the game and also at other sections of the game it is impossible to continue without tediously power-leveling. In addition, the story may not be as epic as Final Fantasy game but it simply doesnt matter in this game.
All in all it is an amazing achievement and I would definitely recommend buying it even if you have never before been an RPG fan. This is a short review and probably doesnt really come close to describing the many aspects that make this game great but I encourage you to go out and try the game for yourself. Just make sure you have enough free-time on your hands as this game will take many hours of enjoyment to complete.
