Dragonlord eh? very origional name indeed!

User Rating: 8.8 | Dragon Quest NES
I recently bought Dragon Warrior for a measly £2 with 3D World runner and Top gun for the nes. Being a NES collector and a huge fan of final fantasy and other RPGs of the era i decided to check Dragon Warrior out, knowing it had to be part of my collection.

When i first turned on the gmae i was a bit uncertain, little bleepy sounds (like most nes games) and the title screen, it wasnt until i played a few hours of this until i realised its real charm, this game is very addictive! i have never been this addicted since Pokemon Blue/Red.

firstly the Graphics, they are good, not great but good, i suppose in 1989 it was top of the range but it has aged a little. But the graphics is what gives this game its charm, it makes it beautifully retro and does not make you turn away in horror. The layouts of the towns, caves etc. was not that spectacular but gets the job done. This game still shows the graphical beauty that the NES could make, so i will give it a nicely earned 7.

Now the gameplay, one word to describe this. Woah. dont listen to critics or people who hate this game, THIS IS ADDICTIVE. By all means follow the fanboys! The battles resemble the battles in Phantasy star but a lot more fun (the first phantasy star was very bland) you have a simple window where the monster is displayed and you have the command window, simpel enough! One thing i enjoy abotu this game is that its fun to level up or just fight monsters! you can go around killing the evil beasts for ages on end and it will still be fun! I have never seen a game with the gameplay so fun and addictive, so i will give ti a well deserved 9, not a 10 because thats silly.

Lastly the sound, hmm... same with the graphics, good but not great. okay its not THAT bad i mean ive heard worse on the NES (hydlide msuic comes to mind *cringes*) but it still does not stand out, usually i turn the volume of my TV right down and listen to something else while playing. But once again it adds to the charm of the game which makes it a lot more fun, watching your warrior dance on the spot to the world map theme is the cutest thing ever to be seen! So i shall give this a 7 and no more.

To sum up this review (which is my first on gamespot i must note) this game is an essential buy for an owner of the slowly aging NES, this game also shows that Enix although now merged with Square have produced many high quality standard games that remain in peoples hearts till they die (aww heart warming)

Dragon Warrior doth score 8.8! No more no less!
