Solid and Beautiful Game but Thin Plot

User Rating: 9 | Dragon Age: Inquisition PC

After playing Dragon Age Inquisition for over 80 hours, I can honestly say I really enjoyed my time with the game. However, something just felt amiss, which I think can basically be narrowed down to the thin plot. The game felt padded with a lot of busy work while the main story, though entertaining, felt short. After so much time with the game, I was expecting something intense or emotional, similar to what I felt when I reached the end of The Last of Us. But alas, the ending was just, how shall I put it...ordinary. The journey though was interesting because like with every Dragon Age game I have played, the companions and their personal stories are wonderful.

The environments are beautiful but I must say the graphics wasn't up to my expectations. Selecting hair styles for my character was cringe inducing...most of the hair styles look terrible :P I was expecting something better on a next gen console (PS4).

Voice acting was perfect. However, of the two male voice selections available for your character, one was leaps and bounds better than the other.

Game play mechanics was solid. Navigating some maps required a bit of platforming and some areas can be a bit frustrating because you can't seem to climb or jump onto ledges that seem perfectly easy to do so. Locating resources was also a chore because when you hear a ping, you cannot determine exactly in which direction to look. I ended up having to swing the camera 360 degrees each time (thankfully, this has been modified in an update, you can now see the relative location of resources in the mini map).

In summary, Dragon Age Inquisition is a solid and enjoyable game with beautiful and expansive environments. It is let down only my its thin plot, which feels particularly acute especially considering the fact that I spent over 80 hours on the game.
