Videogames about medicine were never comin until the days of Truma center, but nearly 20 years ago Nintendo made a puzzle game out of viruses and destroying them with pills or medicine capsules to sound more formal.

Gameplay 8.5/10: Anyone who knows the original game Dr mario will catch on right away, the formula hasnt been changed much. For the rest of you, its a puzzle game. Rather than making whole rows like tetris you make lines of 4( horizantal or vetical) using the capsule blocks that appear. The idea is to destroy the viruses on the board by having the lines of 4 somehow connected to them. LIne up 3 and the virus of the same color can act as the 4th peice therefore clearing the cluster and detroying the virus. There are several different modes from a classic single player, to facing off with a computer with specific challenges. Puzzle games are most fun multiplayer so you'll be happy to know that it has wifi capabilities. While it stays to its roots, veterans players as well as new are allowed to a competly new wii mode. Using the remote to guide down blocks adds new strategy. In normal puzzle games as well as the original mode, if you cleared a lower row of blocks, the blocks stacked above would fall directly down. The wii mode actually lets you redirect them building allowing even more strategy and more combos. It sets a hook maybe not as addicting as tetris but still addicting to play.

Graphics 9/10: Its bright, its colorful, its mario as always. Although the board itself has little design, the 3 small viruses in the bottom left corner provide a bit of entertainment. Clearing a virus will make the same color virus down below squirm as if hes taken damage. Its very amusing and adds to the overall look of the game. In wii mode a bunch of your miis dressed like doctors come ramming into an army of viruses once again providing small amusement of whos gonna fall of the screen. Along with such games like tetris Ds, this game has more to its presentation than just the plain board/playing feild itself.

Sound 9/10: If you dont have good music, you cant get into the rythem of the puzzle game. However in Doctor mario Rx, youll find yourself in a music beat as your playing. Classic tunes such as Fever return providing the rush you feel as your peices start to pile up. It speeds up when your peices are stacked near the top warning you of a game over. It pulls you in to casually enjoy the music but stay focused on the game.

It may not be known as well for his series, it may be pushed aside for more famous puzzle games, but nearly 20 years later Mario can still handle his duties of being a doctor. For a mario fan, a puzzle gamer, or someone recovering memories of their past, Dr. mario Rx is certianly worth the download.
