While not as good as it is on PC, and while flawed with latency, it does pass the time.

User Rating: 6.5 | DOOM (Long Box) PS
Doom and Doom II for the PC were both pheomenal games that had great graphics, smooth gameplay, and plenty of blood and gore. Playstation Doom combines a number of levels from Ultimate Doom and Doom II into one game of 50 levels, including several revamped levels and a few brand new ones.

PROS: Well first off, it's great to see Doom for console. Especially one as popular as the Playstation, or better yet, the Playstation 2. THe graphic quality is mostly the same as the PC, even though some graphics seem a bit scrunched and the color bit makes some things really look just wierd (The Cacodemon for one is rather red, redder than the PC Caco). A number of new textures however have also been introduced, adding some fresh bits to Doom. One new texture continues the trend of flesh making up an entire wall, an is that of split skin dripping intestines. A few new static objects have also arrived including a bloody chain seen in the first level of the levels from "Thy Flesh Consmed", which would be chapter four in Ultimate Doom. Additonally, Doom PS levels all have some new level of colored lighting that really adds some atmosphere to the levels. The new sounds and music also adds to the new atmossphere to the game. Rather than being run and gun, the sound effects and light effects make it more of a horror game where you gotta take baby steps to survive.

CONS: Now part of the above is actually due to latency. PS Doom hardly runs smoothly. While iD tried to sidestep these problems by cutting down the geometry seen in levels and trying to make them more simplistic, and by removing soem of the more complex monsters, such as Arch-Viles and Revenants. Of course they make up for this even by adding the NIghtmare Demon. Doom also has a multiplayer component, but it requires, to games, two systems, and two TV's , and a link cable. It only supports two players in Deathmatch and Co-Op, even thoguh I can;t see laggy DM or CO being anyfun.

Overall, Doom PS is still an alright console shooter, but when it came out, it was without a doubt being overshadowed by the bigger PS releases like Quake II or Medal of Honor, Quake II featuring smooth gameplay and 4-Player multiplayer and Medal of Honors high tech action and story. And of course all those other games too. Still, Doom PS has its merits, and still makes way as a good shooter.
