Owned and loved by millions worldwide Doom is probably the rocket that lifter the FPS genre into the heavens and is also potentially the most succesful piece of shareware ever made chances are you know what Doom is but just in case I'll set the scene. You are a Space Marine...you arrive for duty at a Military and scentific base on mars...however you are greeted by zombified soldiers and various demons too looks like trouble. And thats basically it...you travel through the levels shooting, blasting, and chainsawing through masses of demons as you struggle to get to the bottom of what fate befel the base...the story is given in terms of a screen of text at the end of each chapter and the adventure will quite literally take you to hell and back ...and for anyone who never finished it as I remember Doom had one of the earliest and greatest cliff hanger endings. Obviously compared to todays standards the graphics and sound would get a low score but I shall mark them based on the time frame the game was released since I wouldn't want this great game to be given a low score unfairly. I've currently be re-living the original Doom games all over again as part of the bonus features on the collectors edition of Doom 3 on Xbox. Doom rocks and truly deserves it's place in the gaming history books and hall of fame
