A game that is well worth playing until every last banana has been collected.

User Rating: 9.2 | Donkey Kong Country GBC
The standard for the 2D platformer began with running, jumping and beating enemies while avoiding frequent obstacles, such as holes. Donkey Kong Country continues this fashion and excels in all the right places.
Rare are brilliant at making these types of games and this is a great example of their skills.

Playing the game is easy, although it gets a lot (lot) more challenging as you progress. Jumping and rolling are the most common things you'll be spending your time doing. Enemies are usually defeated by bouncing on their heads or rolling into them. It's as simple as that.

The visuals are nice to look at although do suffer from a bit of slowdown at chaotic times. Donkey and Diddy Kong animate fluidly and keep up with the fast pacing. Most of the scenery is bright and colourful (dull and moody for caverns) and has good variety throughout each level. The graphics have been cut back a bit, because of the GBC's restrictions.

Sound is very good, the chirpy beats that play during the levels will stick in your head for a while after. There is a great range of tunes for most of the game and seems well composed. You won't be hearing a peep out of Donkey or Diddy though!

Addictive and challenging means you will be playing this game until every last bonus area has been uncovered, even if it means replaying the same level a hundred times. This game does get very hard later on and may test your patience. Nevertheless, Donkey Kong Country will prove an enjoyable game from beginning to end.
