Another excellent offering from Codemasters.

Dirt 3 is an off road racing game in which you take on the role of an up and coming driver and is a sequel to Dirt 2. The single player portion is very robust and features a lengthy single player and a great variety of events in which you can take part in. At the same time Dirt 3 is also very user friendly to new comers and features a wide variety of assist options which makes Dirt 3 an ideal game for those who are looking for a way into the genera.

Dirt 3's graphics can only be described as flat out amazing. The graphics are arguably the best that has been seen in an off road racing game to date with environments and cars that look life like. The tracks are also impressive with various layouts all of which look extraordinarily well. Furthermore the weather effects are also brilliantly done from the pouring rain to the snow coming off the other vehicles on the track.

Dirt 3's gameplay is still a blast and very fun. The new gymkhana events can take some getting used to and can be tricky at times. For the most part the selection of cars is fairly decent and has a good amount of them there. However the trucks and buggies are limited to just one of each type which is a big step back from Dirt 2 and can feel disappointing. You can also setup your vehicle of choice using the setup option at the beginning of each race and this can prove critical especially in some of the later races. All adjustments can generally be felt right away and you have the option to restart any given race to adjust these settings. You can also adjust any of the difficulty settings before any race. This option means that as you get better you can either make Dirt 3 match what you feel you can handle. While progressing through the single player campaign you'll earn reputation points that unlock new liveries/team offers but at the same time there is cap at level 30 and you'll hit that cap well before you complete every event.

Dirt 3's audio is all around excellent. The music selection is varied and features a variety of different artists but sadly the music only play before a race starts and during replays only. The voice acting is solid and really gives you the sense that you're part of a group of people that clearly want to see you succeed in the events.

Dirt 3's multiplayer is simple and fun. In multiplayer you earn both fan and reputation points and while the reputation point cap is 30 the fan point cap is about level 50. The events in general are a combination of those found in the single player campaign but also mix in different types in the party mode selection. On the down side if you're looking to buy Dirt 3 used you'll have to pay for an online pass or as Codemasters call it a V.I.P. pass but it's essentially the same concept.

Overall Dirt 3 is arguably one of the best off road racing franchises that continues to make strides and provides a perfect way for newcomers to enter the genera while at the same time being a good challenge to veterans of the genera.
