Random dungeons, random loot, intense sense of urgency and best of all your actions have a significant impact!

User Rating: 9 | Din's Curse PC
First things first, if you enjoy ARPG's like Diablo, Sacred, Titan Quest, etc. you have to try this game. Please do not look at graphics, just get it for what made other games addictive and more. And let's admit it, even though those other games had stories, it was only there to add polish to what made the core game great, going into dungeons, killing monsters and finishing quests, earning loot to build your character, and using whatever skill-points you get to improving your skills and making your character unique.

Din's curse is highly addicting the more you play and the quicker you can get past the graphics the better! This game has so many addicting qualities it would be a sin to not try.

First of all, towns are randomly generate, your have done pretty nasty things in a past life, your god tells you in order to earn your freedom you must help others, etc. etc. Well you start in a town that no other player will see, everything is random. You are given a list of quests, that are completely random. a dungeon is generated for you that is completely random, completely random monsters, etc. etc. Items that you get from quests and from monsters are completely random, get the picture? This makes for excellent playability. However if you find that boring, add this, every quest you complete, every boss you kill has a huge impact on whether you save town, or loose it to an invasion. Have a quest to stop an uprising? you better find and complete that quest soon or eventual it will grow out of control and send waves of monsters to your town. Have a quest to build up defenses? you may wish to do those if you can to lesson chances of monsters killing NPC's before you get to them, you can build shrines that heal the NPC's in town, or lighting totems that help kill the monsters while you make your way to town and save them.

What if you loose control a little bit, a few invasions come in town and kill some important NPC's. Well just do quests and continue to protect the town and soon a quest will be offered to you to go and get a new weapon master, or new important NPC that was lost, this will allow you to get those important NPC's back in your town and move you one step closer to saving them. Sometimes you will complete quests for an NPC that just died in a recent invasion, after bringing back a new NPC you can then turn in your quests and reap the reward. After you save a town you are rewarded from your god with goodies and soon sent off to a whole new town/area with all new completely random and unique new experiences, eventually opening up more and more stuff that could happen in each town, opening up better items, more random town modifiers, and more, and you will be amazed many times over of how unique each town is and the events that can be generated.

Each class is very unique and you can build each class to be unique so no two are alike. You can play a necromancer and have an army of 20 minions if you want. you can play a ranger and shoot multiple arrows at mobs while laying traps in your wake. You can play a wizard and blow things up. You can play a rogue, go invisible only to sneak behind a boss and kill it with only a few quick thrusts. Ever class is unique and fun. There is also a great re-spec system. If you accidentally add skill points in a wrong slot you can remove them at a cost and re-add them somewhere else. When you create a character you get to choose from many preset classes each with 3 'sub classes" in each, you can choose to spread your points across many of those sub classes, or specialize in one with few in others. Or if you really want to be unique, choose a hybrid class were you choose 2 subclasses from two completely different classes and mix and match, you can be a warrior/mage, a ranger/priest, a necromancer/wizard. In total there is over 140 combinations to choose from. There is 7 classes with 3 sub/classes each, that is
21 total subclass, add in that hybrids can choose any 2 they like, that is a ton of combinations to choose from!

This game is a must have for any APRG fan. Unfortunately the saddest part of this game is no marketing, no one knows it exists. 2nd part is most people who do see game, get turned off by graphics and never bother to try, they immediately see old dated graphics and not so good animations and are turned off, never to pick up game and play for a few hours to see truly how awesome it is. They have a demo too and no excuses not to try! Best money i have ever spent on a game.

If you have a family member or friend to play with, this game has a great solid lan feature with almost no bugs to speak off. I've been playing personally with my aunt who has not played a game since diablo 2, or enjoyed a game for that matter and we have now been playing for weeks together and yet to get bored. even if i just played by myself in singleplayer i would not get tired of this game for a while.

The only thign this game needs.... is more people and advertising!

Since i have to put some negatives since this is a review...

Con's
Graphics, yes they are graphics that look like they are from 90's, if you have to display your latest $500 graphics card, this game isn't it.

Sound, does job but is very lacking. Sound again sounds like it was made with an old soundblaser sound card in mind. There is no voice acting and music could be annoying for some people, which it's high pitched violins instruments, etc. The game uses Direct 3d sound, which unfortunately does not work well with Vista and windows 7, if you have a good sound card like a creative sound, or Auzentech like me, make sure to turn creative alchemy on this game so you get 3d positioning sound, helps!!

Story, there is not much story, you are put in a town to save them, and earn reputation to free your self from all bad deeds you done in past. That's about it.

Conclusion:

If you want re-playability, creating a unique and fun class, random dungeons, random loot, constant sense of great accomplishment, and best feature of all, completely random events, world/town modifiers and quests and having a real sense of urgency and impact on your world followed by your actions, YOU MUST TRY THIS GAME!!! you will not be disappointing if give it a chance.
