The most underrated game of all time!

User Rating: 9 | Digimon World PS
I must say that the ratings this game has received do not do this game justice. This is truly a masterpiece of a game which is one of my all time favourites up there with MGS's, Final Fantasies, Baldur's Gates, and Resident Evils. People keep complaining that this game is hard and that it requires a lot of patience... really? First of all, it is only hard if you don't understand how to play it, if you don't understand that there is much more to the game than just attack and heal, and that it is set up so you can finish a good chunk of the game just with your first digimon. As for patience, there is not much required as you can skip most of the training by pressing triangle... so to train a digimon only takes 10- 20 mins and then off you go. The only thing you would need patience for is the loading times.

I put over 80 hours in this game for the fact that is immersive, interesting, and always evolving (you grow your pets, your city, the main character himself gets higher ranks every now and then). Here is an overview:

Gameplay (9.5/10):
+61 different digimon to aquire
+excellent combat mechanics which are very different that in most RPG's
+constant surprises
+constant evolution and growth
+rewarding fights (some will join the city)
-long load times
-some disappointments (when you pet dies... :( )

Graphics (9/10):
+Great style
+Great monster design
+Excellent animations
+Filled with personality
-Visual glitches
-Some special attacks could have used more flare

Sound (9/10):
+Music always fits the mood
+Sound effects are unique
-Battle music could have seen more variety

Value (9/10):
+Very long and rewarding
- More minigames would have been welcome

This is a game you should not miss out on. I recommend you print off a guide for monster training after you beat it so you can complete the evolution tree. If you don't like the fact that you are not in control of the battle this game is probably not for you. If you have never seen an episode of the show then it might not be for you as well. If you liked any other digimon game and remotely enjoyed it, this one is a million times better so check it out.
Cheers.
