Diddy Kong Racing is a great racing for the Nintendo 64 besides Mario Kart 64.

User Rating: 9 | Diddy Kong Racing N64
I remember when I first played Diddy Kong Racing since I was in fourth grade (ten years old) with my best friends. Now that I look back on Diddy Kong Racing, it's still one of the greatest racing games of all time even if it does appeal to the younger audience. Adults should also have as much fun as kids would have playing this game.

Presentation - There is an adventure mode that allows you to unlock certain characters like T.T. and all of the tracks. You can select some of your favorite characters like Diddy Kong, Conker, Banjo, and a few others, and you can have up to three stored files. Once you begin adventure mode, there is a strange, large elephant that guides you whenever you need it. There is also one key to find on each sub world. Once you find the key, you unlock a stage that lets you battle with friends or AI opponents. You can also drive airplanes and hovercrafts whenever you like. The mutliplayer modes are based on adventure mode. Once you unlock certain tracks in adventure mode, you can race against your friends on these same tracks. Also, after you unlock all of the tracks on one sub world, you have to race a boss. These races are not overly difficult, but there are obstacles that can get in the way.

Graphics - Sure they may look cute and childish, but they are very smooth, well animated, and looks more polished than most Nintendo 64 games. I haven't noticed and slowdowns, frame rate issues or any glitches yet. Rare has done an excellent job designing this game.

Sound - The music may also sound a bit on the childish level, but they are upbeat, relaxing, and the music fits perfectly with this kind of game. In fact, when you start this game up, you can hear children laughing while the Rare logo spins around for a few seconds. The character voices also sound cute and smooth, and they don't sound very annoying to me.

Game play - The controls are accurate, tight, and responsive like they should be. They are simple enough for a child to play, but not too complicated for the older folks. Everything just feels right.

Lasting appeal - Diddy Kong Racing is a great racing for the Nintendo 64 besides Mario Kart 64. Although this game appeals more to the younger audience, don't be fooled by the looks because the adventure mode is still challenging for all ages. Multiplayer mode is up to four players.

The good - adventure mode is lengthy and can be challenging at times, strong competitive multiplayer, proficient graphics

The bad - certain gamers may be turned off by the cute graphics and childish music
