*****INTRODUCTION*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

THE POSITIVES
Outstanding visuals – Kick ass soundtrack – Awesome characters – Great boss fights – Amazing animation – Great voice acting – Great sound-effects

--------------------------------------------------------

THE NEGATIVES
Linear levels – Story leave you with unanswered questions – Gives us nothing really new to the series.

--------------------------------------------------------

The forth instalment in the Devil May Cry series. Following the same concept as it's predecessors, Devil May Cry 4 is a 3rd person hack n' slash action game developed and published by Capcom in 2008 for the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****PLOT*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You play Nero, a new character in the Devil May Cry series and the main playable character in Devil May Cry 4, along with Dante who is the second playable character.
The story revolves around Nero and he is what you would expect from a young gothic type character; he's stubborn, prefers working solo, acts before thinking, thinks he can take on anyone and everyone etc. Nero can be a bit hard to accept at first, but as you play on, slowly Nero becomes a character you'll grow to like.
The story is basically; you play Nero, a knight for the Order of the Sword. The Order of the Sword fought to protect mankind and they revere the demon warrior Sparda as their God. Their sole purpose is the extermination of all demons.

On the day of the annual Festival of the Sword, a powerful man appeared seemingly from nowhere and before anyone could act, this man assassinated the head of the Order. The name of the assassin is Dante, the son of the legendary warrior, Sparda.

Your job as Nero, is to pursue the assassin, Dante, and bring his to justice for the cold hearted murder on the head of the Order.

*****GRAPHICS*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The visuals are without a doubt amazing. The final rendering of the character, the background details and the special effect from bullet sparks to using your devil arm is just outstanding.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****GAME-PLAY*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The best thing in the whole Devil May Cry series is indeed the game-play. The game-play however in DMC4 is a wee bit of a let down. The game-play is good and fluent enough to play, but I found it rather a wee bit slower than other DMC games. The game is quite linear and a bit repetitive at times, pretty much the same as it predecessors. Going from A to B just killing demon and making your way to your next boss fight was great back then, but I just thought that with the next generation there would have added a bit more on the level size and design.
Nero can do pretty much everything Dante can do; he has a sword called Red Queen, and a revolver type gun called Blue Rose, however Nero has something Dante doesn't have, a powerful devil arm that can be used to perform some pretty cool bad ass things, like grab enemies and pull them in close to do some serious damage etc. The first half of the game you play as Nero and the second half you play as Dante, which can be confusing because both characters have different attack skills and combos. Much like in Devil May Cry 3, Dante has the same old cool style skills and you can switch between then fluently throughout Dante's playthrought. The game is repetitive. Every boss fight is fought twice, and sometimes even three times. Playing as Dante you'll find yourself going through the same levels, environments, and boss fights as you had done playing as Nero, heading your way back to near the start of the game. The one thing that I really like about play as Dante – besides actually playing as Dante – is that after you defeat a boss, Dante finishes the boss of for good, unlike Nero. The boss fights in Devil May Cry 4 are great and somewhat challenging. Capcom has always done awesome work in boss battle, not just in DMC, but in the Resident Evil series as well.

The game-play is good, just not as awesome as the first and third Devil May Cry games. It's quite easy playing the game from start to finish but can be very difficult when trying to go for a perfect score.

*****ONLINE MULTIPLAYER*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

N/A

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****SOUND DESIGN*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What can I say, the sound effects are just spot on. Great voice acting and an awesome kick ass music soundtrack.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
*****LIFE VALUE*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Devil May Cry 4 will probably take you about 12 to 16 hours to finish depending on your skills of game-play. Devil May Cry 4 is a type of game will probably play again and again, and if your like me, you'll probably want to try and get the best rank on every level, and on every difficulty level. The down side is that there's no trophy patch.

*****EDITOR'S FINAL THOUGHTS*****
=============================================================

Overall Devil May Cry 4 is an impressive game, just not the best in the series. I still think the first Devil May Cry is the best, and I think it will always be the best in the series. I would recommend Devil May Cry 4 to all Devil May Cry fan and to new players, but I just didn't find it as appealing as the original Devil May Cry was.

The story is not bad and at times can be interesting, but I found that some of my question still remain unanswered which probably means we'll be expecting another instalment in the series.

If you haven't yet Played Devil May Cry 4, I would recommend it as a rental for either the PS3 or Xbox 360, however the PS3 has no trophy support… if that puts you off.

*****RECOMMENDATIONS*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you like the hack and slash genre, like previous Devil May Cry instalments, you should check out Devil May Cry 4.

*****FINAL OVERALL SCORE*****
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Story – 6.5/10
Not bad, just didn't have the same oomph as DMC 1 and 3.

Online Multiplayer – N/A

Life Value – 6/10
Like any single player games, life value is pretty slime. Devil May Cry 4 offers a 12 or so hour single player story mode. There is of course harder difficulty setting to unlock, plus a level rating system which will surely boost more hours of play if your into getting a SS rating on all levels.

My Thought Score – 8/10
Whilst it may not be the best DMC in the series, DMC4 still packs a punch. As a fan of the series, I certainly enjoyed DMC4.

-----------------------------------------------------

Presentation – 7.5/10
Whilst the plot isn't anything great, Devil May Cry 4 features fantastic animation, gorgeous visuals, an awesome kick ass soundtrack and exhilarating cut-scenes.

Graphics – 10/10
Beautifully rendered characters, environment and special effects.

Game-Play – 8/10
Kick ass, just not ass faster, or as better as DMC 1 and 3.

Sound Effects – 10/10
Fantastic voice talents mixed in with awesome sound effects and a kick ass soundtrack.

Concept – 5/10
DMC 4 offers nothing new to the series, or to the genre, but the overall concept design and boss fights are pretty good nonetheless and give the game great balance.
