A game without mercy.

Every now and then, Japan reminds us how much better they are at video games than the U.S. When you pop in DVC3, don't expect a nice introduction to the gameplay mechanics. Prepare to die. Room after room is filled with fast, violent, and often cheap enemies who can quickly bring you to your knees. These are just the small guys. The boss battles are insane. And you know what...? I love it!!!

It is refreshing to play a game as challenging as DMC3. Not only do you end up having to restart missions when you die, but buying items to help you during the levels causes their price to go up. Wow. As I said before, no mercy. However, once you the get the hang of how Dante works in this game, you can really even the score with Hell's minions. Customizing styles and weapons adds a small RPG aspect to this seizure inducing action adventure. The moves you are able to pull off with the right amount of timing, such as skating around the room on fallen enemies while blasting your cannons in both directions, really makes you look like a rather slick individual.

The graphics in this game are top notch. Going with the current trend, the graphics quality in the cutscenes is similar to what you will find in gameplay. The soundtrack to the game fits the over-the-top reckless personality of Dante quite well, even though it sounds like a Mindless Self-Indulgence track that has been slowed down to twice its normal speed. The actual in-game battle sounds are a triumph of the aural realm. When you get a chance between battles, just listen to your sword sing through the air.

Also, this game does have a plot, unlike DMC1, and I don't count DMC2 as a real game. If you're in for a challenge and have the hand-eye coordination of a ninja-master on meth, this game is a gem of a find in this Animal Farm-infected world.
