The Legendary Edition is a great way to experience "Destiny".

User Rating: 9 | Destiny: The Taken King - Legendary Edition XONE

Bungie's "Destiny" did not live up to expectations when it was first released. Often criticized for its repetition and lack of narrative, the online shooter was considered to be a major disappointment by both consumers and critics alike. But after a steady stream of constant updates, the game began to improve considerably. With the release of "The Taken King" a year after its initial launch date, "Destiny" finally began to fulfill its promise as an innovative shooter. The Legendary Edition includes the base game along with all of its updates as well as the expansions The Dark Below, The House of Wolves and The Taken King. It's a great collection although it does not include 2016's The Rise of Iron.

A combination of "Halo", "World of Warcraft" and "Mass Effect", "Destiny" is a first-person shooter that contains plenty of RPG elements. Although it does not surpass the work Bungie did with the "Halo" games, it's still a great game that rewards dedicated players with plenty of great loot and equipment. While the game's weak narrative is pretty weak (pre-Taken King), the action and presentation is top-notch. Online competitive play is more conventional than single-player with Team Deathmatches and Conquest modes being the main draws. A blend of "Call of Duty" and "Halo", multiplayer matches are fast and fun, but aren't anything original. However, the cooperative Strikes and Raids can be a blast with a group of friends.

"Destiny" might be a better game than when it first launched, but it still has its faults. Taken as a whole package, the game is very good, but there are still room for improvements. The sequel should include a real story with real characters rather than a barebones plot starring action figures. Without a proper single player, the game also feels like it's missing a major component. Nevertheless, the game is a stellar action game that fans of Bungie and RPG games should enjoy. I'd rank the Legendary Edition with an 8.7 out of 10.
