The good, the beautiful and the bad?

User Rating: 6 | Destiny XONE

I'm not a reviewer but like many, I have put in a great many hours in to a variety of games and feel the need to express my opinion of Destiny, a game that should have delivered on all fronts but failed in that endeavor.

Bungie almost nailed the fundamentals. Gunplay has spurred me on to play more than I ever thought I could, all weapons provide a distinct punch that makes them a joy to wield. Super powers have the ability to make you feel like a god for a short time, just not so much that you steal the show from other guardians. Controls are fluid, making you feel light on your feet, agile. Gorgeous and vivid the world is a sight to behold and does a great job of setting the scene.

This makes for a fantastic foundation but...

It feels unfinished, like Bungie explored and created half of the project then decided to drop the ball. The world lacks life and substance. It doesn't feel like the darkness is swallowing the universe, attempting to bring the last city down to its knees. Instead it's like hearing constant empty threats... "Guardian's you better save the system or the darkness might hurt us". It lacks drama, it lacks action and most of all it lacks the storyline that motivates us to save the day. Here's the tip of the iceberg, before I stated that Bungie almost nailed the fundamentals, this is where they failed.. How come in a world of allies I can not unite a small group of people to tackle a daily strike or raid, where is the LFG mechanic? Now that's a very large oversight for a game that boasts about being an MMO/Shooter hybrid on such a huge budget to boot.

To summarize, Destiny is not all its cracked up to be. It's the base of a game with a promise of completion rather than a full game with promise of expansion. It's beautiful but massively flawed and with that we get a great many mixed opinions, I can only hope Bungie will pull through for loyal followers and inject some life in to this title.

Thanks for taking the time to read my quick review of Destiny.
