Destiny, a work in progress.

User Rating: 7 | Destiny (Digital Guardian Edition) PS4

my destiny opinion... i like it, i don't love it, i would have loved to love it, sadly i don't. over-hype is a fair description.

the good:

-loot system is satisfying when reaching endgame and the fact that every weapon needs to level up, combined with the fact that you subclass is far from maxed just because you reach level-cap, keep thing fresh and gives you goals to work towards, and a feeling that you can always become stronger.

-The races all feel really different and unique to fight, which keep you on you toes and keep the game fun, especially when the races fight one another, and you end up fighting two different races at the time.

-multiplayer is great, plenty of modes and maps. MP is by far destiny's greatest feature, and it is something the developer Bungie has always been great at

-playing with friends makes it way way more fun then playing alone, and it is whats gonna make endgame content fun to keep doing.

the bad:

-bungie promised really extensive customization, but they did not clarify, yes maybe a little compared to a shooter like COD, becouse bungie is a shooter, but compared to most mmo or rpg games, it's customization is very limited.

-every single story mission in the game is the same, they might say "get a key" or "steal data" but all you do is shoot enemies like always, and you just happen to have a key at the end... it's too repetitive for a shooter with mmo element., half the time missions are literally just the same as freeroame mode with a bid of narration, and the other half is the same except you also get a cutsceen or two. Destiny's main focus isn't story, story mission are just an element to get you to level-cap, because that is where the game and the gear start to get really interesting, but honestly i think bungie could have tied harder then this to make a good story, because it is mediocre at best

-the way weapon stats works is never explained nor does the game contain this info at all, and for a complicated stat system like this, people need to know. the endgame is based on getting new and better loot, but you are not able to compare gear, all you can do is look at the stability of impact bar and go "well my old gun had this bare about 60% full and this looks more like 65 or 70, better get a freaking ruler and measure my TV"

- story mode does not have enough maps, and not big enough. even though there are so few missions in the game (about 20 hours of story content), you will find that some mission will have you fight through the same exact places, with the same enemies just to end another place that is only a shot distance away from where you ended last, simply put, lazy map design.

Q&A:

was it fun? hell yes!

was it worth the price? yes...barely, but still yes.

IS IT WORTH BUYING A PS4/XBOX-ONE OVER? no not really, because because right now you can by the ps3/360 version and get the ps4 for free, so i recommend you go buy it for your current gen console, and see if you like it first, and if you do, then buy the the next gen console of your choice and play it on that for free. game progress does transfer, so you dont have to start over. (FAIR WARNING: Destiny is marketed way more at the ps4, with lots of exclusive content and early access deals)

will it crash and burn? i don't know, but i have seen better MMOs become deserted and die, just saying. but then again, those games were not under sony's protective wings, so who knows. they say that they plan on being around a long time, so if Bungie puts in good effort, this game could be great, but for now it is indeed a work in progress.
