Innovative, Original, Amazing. This game has revived and rejuvenated my hopes on RPG for new gens.
Game play: 10/10
I've seen very little RPG games involving a unique mixture of real-time action infused with rudimentary elements of RPG.
It provides all that's needed to kick enemy asses. But, that doesn't mean they can't kick the player's ass as well. The game is very difficult but also manageable and addictive. This game will actually make the player learn from their own mistakes and anneal them to be better players.
When playing online, the player can also call help from blue phantoms which are other players to help in their journey to kill the demon's or even be summoned by other players in soul form.
It is also possible to view the deaths of other players to help others to warn them of danger so they can avoid the same fate as well. Messages can be left to help others to strategically advance the next part of the stage or simply get rare items. It's also very nice to see the ghosts of other players playing in the same world as well.
For more competitive reasons, players can become black phantoms to invade other players and kill them so they can reclaim their living body. This may be irritating or frightening but it's best to prepare for these situations and to test your skills upon other players. However, it is possible to fight other players intentionally if they drop a red eye stone which is basically requesting challengers. This had lead many tournaments as well.
Versatility: 10/10
Demon's Souls doesn't spoon feed the players info themselves. They need to learn it as they play. This game will save automatically at every point, meaning it is almost impossible to avoid screw ups. Demon's Souls challenges the players to think critically about what may happen if they do certain actions or be wary of certain characters. The only way to get certain events is find them out. They don't come to you, you need to come to you.
Regarding actions, there is a system called World Tendency. Black world tendency will likely lead to harder demon's yet more rewards. White world will have weaker demon's but less rewards. The World Tendency will change according to the players actons meaning killing an innocent NPC will likely lead to a Black World Tendency and slaying a demon or a black phantom will lead to a White World Tendency. However, some events may only be unlocked during certain tendencies and others unavailable so it is advisable to change them from time to time to get those events.
Story: 9/10
Hard to believe? Well here in Demon's Souls, it's about a place called Boletaria that's under the influence of demons and will soon plague the world. The player must either save the world or rule the world as a demon. There's more to it but that's the whole basis. However, if examined closely. There's a lot of historical backgrounds when talking to NPCS and reading descriptions of the world and items/weapons that have been obtained.It's possible to find lot's of historical depth.
Graphics: 10/10
It's amazing. The details, the texture and the whole atmosphere just sinks everything. Every world looks different and it's filled with different varieties of demons. That's all I can say but I really can't describe graphics too well.
Sound: 10/10
No music unless it's a boss fight or back to the nexus but the noises is what keeps players focused. Every noise counts to ensure what might come next or what's happening around the player. However, the boss fight songs are very eccentric and original in my opinion. I've seen lots of people download them.
