User Rating: 5.7 | Defender of the Crown AMI
Defender of the Crown is a classic game brought to NES and DOS from the C64 version. The basic plot is that the Normans and the Saxons are fighting each other for the unification of the Kingdom. Robin Hood is in the backdrop trying to pull things together, and you control on of a few leaders who are on the front lines challenging enemies for power. Gameplay: 6/10 The game board is very small in that the number of territories to control is very limitted. But for what it's worth this is a fun game to play. You can chose to do one of a number of things including attacking and seiging a castle, stealing, hosting a tournament and jousting, etc... The jousting and seiging is probably the most fun. Graphics: 8/10 I rate it highly only in comparison to the same game in DOS format. The dos game is in CGA graphics... very very poor. This is leaps and bounds better. Sound: 4/10 The arragement and varity of music is good. But I'll just tell you that I hate the main song. It bothers me because it just seems... lame. Reviewer's Tilt: 5/10 I liked the DOS game and like this one too. The only reason to get this, though, is to play a version with better graphics than the DOS version.
