Don't go near this game.
The controls stink, the game is non-responsive (when making a sportsgame for the Wii these days, why on earth would you not want to include the option to use the Motion Plus?) and the choice of games is... well... alternative.
You get to choose between 10 sports, some of them are more or less copies from the ones from Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort, while others are fresh for gaming platforms altogether. They're all, however, very badly done, both in graphic representation and gameplaywise.
I. e. the petanque game. It should be pretty simple to implement, but somehow they bumped it up. For some reason the game don't respond to your action until after you have finished your throw, so making an accurate swing with the remote is pretty hard. Moreso, the game don't register if your swing is too soft. So hitting the little ball if it's not in the far end on the court is almost impossible. The ten minutes I spent trying to get it to work, I overshot every single shot.
The Darts game is another shining example of the complete lack of intuition the games controls are built with.
To hit a 3x20 takes alot of precision work, obviously. Problems are, though, that
1: The game doesn't have Motion Plus but still requires you to fiddle around with a highly sensitive cursor on the darts board and
2: To throw the dart you must pull the remote back towards yourself and then hurl it forwards towards the TV set, while pressing BOTH the A and B button, which you have to let go of to complete the throw. This means that you almost throw your remote at your TV. And while all this is going on you still have to concentrate on keeping the cursor on your wanted target, no target locking in this game, no siree...
Alternately some of the games are ridiculously easy, like the speed skating event, where the AI just won't keep up, or the motocycling event, that, despite having very unresponsive controls, still let's you win way too easily.
Mogul Skiing just ain't fun, the syncronized swimming (yup, they included that one, God knows why) is made like a one of those stupid dancing games where you must hit the directions indicated with the right timing and the fencing game (kendo) is way too simple.
They included Tennis in this pack as well, which I thought at first, was either very brave or very stupid. It's been done so many times before, so to include it they must really have thought up a new angle to the game, I thought. They haven't. The game comes nowhere near Wii Sports Tennis. The graphics of this game is rather nice, the grass is nicely done. But alas, as with most of the other games, the controls stink.
This leaves us with the two games that I actually played through from finish to end.
The Dodgeball game is kind of fun, built over the classic gym class game, and a good idea to include in a Sports collection game. But, you guessed it, bad controls.
The Hockey sure hasn't pinpoint accurate controls either, but was fun for about 2 games time. It was way too easy to score, but the AI actually could fight back, and had an easy time scoring against you as well... A strange way to compensate for the lack of difficulty, but I had 10 minutes of fun. That sure doesn't outweigh the cost of the game, but at least there's a little positive to say.
Oh, and one more good thing. They included tournaments, and you get to create your own teams. The character are, however grim Mii-wannabe's and a Nintendo-Mii license would have made a much better impression, but still.
And all this brings me back to the introduction to this review. When I reviewed the game, it had an average gamespot user score of 9/10 with 30 votes. How this is possible, baffles me. In my opinion this game is not the CD worth it was printed on. If you find this in a bargain bin in a few weeks, don't be surprised. But most importantly, don't be tempted either.
