A Lot of Wasted Promise

User Rating: 5.8 | Tekken: Nina Williams - Death by Degrees PS2
Ah, Nina. We hardly knew ye. Actually, that's not exactly true. We've come to know you pretty well over the last 12 years. Always taking no prisoners in the Tekken arena, you know how to take care of business. Unfortunately, your breakaway title proves that you haven't learned that there's some business that should never be taken care of.

I won't get into the story, since you can read an official synopsis in Gamespot's review; suffice it to say that the story is utter garbage. The graphics are middling at best, dated at worst. It looks like a first-generation PS2 game, and after seeing Tekken 4 and 5 and Soul Calibur II & III in action, the lack of graphical quality is inexcusable. Especially with this title, since it can use all the help it can get. The sound is better than the visuals, if only marginally so. The biggest hang-up with this game is the crappy "flick-the-analog-stick-in-the-desired-direction" combat system. It just isn't precise enough. The weapon selection is nice, but that's it.
