Fun? Yeah. Free with Dead Space 2? Yeah, at least with the Limited Edition anyway. As scary as Dead Space 1/2? You Bet!!

User Rating: 9.5 | Dead Space: Extraction PS3
When I first heard that Dead Space: Extraction was going to be available for the PlayStation 3, I was very excited. Then when I heard that it was going to be a fully compatible PS Move game that was going to be absolutely free with Dead Space 2: Limited Edition, I simply couldn't say no to buying the Limited Edition and getting Extraction for free.
And that's quite possibly the best thing about it. Its a bargain! You are basically getting two games for the price of one, albeit one game is shorter than the other. You may be disappointed with the fact that Dead Space: Extraction is considerably shorter than the original Dead Space games. However, the game play more than makes up for the length.
Unlike the traditional way of playing Dead Space from a third person perspective, throughout Extraction, you are playing from a first person perspective. However, there is more to it than that. For the majority of the game, the only control of the character that you are assuming is aiming your gun or looking around for items. The movement of the character is not done by you at all. Extraction is a "Rail Shooter", which limits the player to moving around the screen, aiming at your enemies and searching for items on the floor while the game follows a specific route. It does take some getting used to, but it is the perfect way to play a game with the PlayStation Move. It doesn't matter if you don't have a navigation controller, because you don't need one. All the buttons you need are on the Move controller.
Using the Move controller to play the game is simple enough. Aiming your reticule is done by moving the controller around. The trigger button, as you'd expect, is to fire your currently selected weapon, and the move button is to use Kinesis. Kinesis is used to grab items and ammo that is left lying around just for you to pick up. It is also used to hurl debris, projectiles and other things around you at enemies. Kinesis is a very nifty thing to use, and is very responsive. Items can be picked up fairly quickly, so you can get straight back into the action. Stasis also makes a return in this game. You can use this to slow down your enemies and any obstacles in your path.
Speaking of action, Extraction is full of it. Necromorphs are constantly attacking you and sends you into a rush to defeat them all before they kill you. As in the original game, you need to dismember them to get rid of them. You'll be wasting your ammo if you just fire at the body and don't aim for their limbs. All of the weapons from the original Dead Space game return, including the ever reliable Plasma Cutter and the fast firing Pulse Rifle. Three new weapons are introduced in Extraction. Firstly, the Rivet Gun is the weapon you begin the game with. It's not the most powerful gun in the world, but it has infinite ammo and is also used for sealing doors and passageways during the game. The other weapons include the P-Sec Pistol, which functions just like a normal Pistol, and the Pick Axe, your melee weapon, which is relatively weak, and should only be used for clearing obstacles blocking your way. Each weapon, except the Pick Axe, has an alternate firing mode, which you activate by rolling your Move controller to the side. The reticule will look slightly different in this mode. It is really easy to use the secondary firing mode, and fun too.
The story of this game is great, and you will be able to experience it through a few different perspectives. The game constantly makes you feel involved and will keep you on the edge of your seat the whole way through.
Overall, the game is an absolute blast to play during the 10 chapter storyline, its full of surprises, references to characters from the original Dead Space, and, of course, scares. Necromorphs are jumping at you from everywhere all the time, and dismembering them is just plain satisfying. A free PlayStation Move game with Dead Space 2: Limited Edition that is simply a great ride? Yes Please.
